What I learnt from Die Hard.

1. You could smoke in airports (once upon a time) - and I don't mean in that gross hazy box, I just mean strolling around the baggage carousel.
2. Sexual harassment didn't matter in the corporate world (once upon a time).
3. The guy that plays the limo driver is the young guitar thief in the Blues Brothers (in the guitar shop of Ray Charles, who shoots at him)(once upon a time).
4. The actor who played Mr Takagi was a big star in the Flower Drum Song (Rodgers & Hammerstein musical) and went on to be General Li in Mulan... He's Hawaiian not Japanese.
5. Alan Rickman type villain doesn't need to creep in with guns like the rest of his crew - he just strolls around with his hands in his pockets...
6. If you are dragged out mid-coitus by crazed gunmen toting machine guns, you'll try to put your top on, screaming...
7. If you somehow get on the police emergency channel and tell them there are terrorists with automatic weapons, and then there is a gun fight broadcast over the channel, the police will send a 'black &white' to drive past, but only if he's free...
8.If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem, jerkoff. (All wisdom should end with a rude word to make people laugh while learning something philosophical)
9.Sometimes, if you are German and you didn't understand an instruction, it's much clearer if it's repeated in English.
10. The assistant who gives out Gennaro's address to the tv reporter is Penny Marshall's daughter, Tracy Reiner (she took her stepfather's name - Rob Reiner)
My 12 year old didn't recognise Bruce Willis for awhile, because of the hair..(proving some people do look better with age). Some people also look way better without hair. Positive message for us all. Lastly, and most importantly...it's still good! Yippee Kai ay, motherfuckers!

    1. you must deal a little better with a AK47 in your face than I would...or maybe I'm just a hussy who likes to flaunt it! ;)

  3. LOL - I think my top would be the last thing I would worry about. Having come from a country where AK47s are common place, I KNOW I wouldn't be worrying about my top !!
Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane - may have to take myself off to see what Die Hard DVDs I can find - esp now that I pretty much have the TV plus remote all to myself most of the time (well until A gets back or K doesn't go out !!!!)
    Have the best day !

  4. I find it really noticable that older movies show people smoking in airports, restaurants and pubs/clubs. It's something we don't see in the real anymore, and many more recent films don't show any smoking at all.

I loved the Die Hard series... but I'm not sure I'd go see the latest movie. A few too many, I think.

    1. I ADORE Die Hard 1 & 4 - they're my ultimate fell good movies (I'm not one for romance, so the romance in 4 is just enough for me...). I raced out to the first session of 5, and it's pretty lame, but if you are a big fan, you have enough good will to laugh along with it....but I don't think I'd watch it again. It's in the bucket with 2 & 3, but 4, I reckon I've watched that 20 times...(I've just outed myself as a loser, but I'm okay with that)

  6. Right. I missed all that when I watched it the first time!
But I wouldn't recognise Bruce Willis either! That man is missing a LOT of hair these days :)

    1. Tread carefully, I have an unhealthy interest in Mr Willis...but only sans hair.

  8. Can I confess... I've never seen any of them... maybe time to watch them all with the teens. I watched the Nordic Noir series 'The Killing' recently and was amazed at how much smoking there was on screen... cos we're so used to none these days. Thanks god.

  9. Just want to add, I watched Grapes of Wrath the other night, the Henry Fonda one (our library screens movies once a month).
It's a great film and hasn't dated but it's sooooo depressing, and unrelentingly so. I just can't deal with it. So I sat there thinking 'I wish it was just some action movie'...clearly I've made those the world of unreality and all movies that deal with actual real life issues are just too depressing for my little brain to enjoy...
