I may go M.I.A

By the time you read this, I will already have been up watching my first game for the World Cup. While not a regular soccer fan, I love the festival of football that comes around every four years. I try to watch at least part of each game, I traipse across town in the wee small hours to join like minded audiences and soak up the atmosphere. I've drawn the sweep, I've placed my tips (with scores) on every match of the first round (and surprisingly, have Argentina winning overall - you heard it here first).

I love the cocoon that you go into, where all you think and want to talk about is the last few games you watched...you will see me tracking down the men at the kids parties, trying to see who is interested and wants to talk World Cup (sexist I know, but that's usually how it is).

So, I give you fair warning - if I miss a post here or there, or if I seem even more pointless than usually, you know why...

And I have been lamenting the absence of a number of now retired greats - for those that have lived under a rock, this is still the best sports ad ever (note they are not sponsors of the World Cup, just very sneaky geniuses!)

So who's ready for the footdance?

Linking up with Thankful Thursdays because I'm thankful that it's finally here again, With some Grace for FYBF and lastly with Things I Know because I know that my heart will be broken when a number of teams fail to go through....

    3. Ha! That's fine - we all have those days (or even months) but I stopped doing link up because the host NEVER commented on mine - and there were only 2 other people linking up!

  4. I'm not a huge soccer fan but I do love World Cup time. Huns is a massive soccer love though, so I'd better embrace it :P

  5. I can't say that I'm a huge sports fan, but do love the energy when something big is going on. Enjoy it all, Lydia!

  6. Yep, I know exactly what you mean. I love that feeling of going into a cocoon for a couple of weeks and soaking up the atmosphere. I'm not quite as much of a fan as you are, but my son's really into it this time and that makes me even more excited. Tomorrow morning I'm taking him and his cousin to see the Australia vs Chile match live at the cinema at 6am Perth time. We'll have to leave home at 5am and from his point of view, that makes it all even more exciting!

  7. I asked a grade 12 boy today (a well-known soccer fanatic) who was going to win and he said Spain or Germany. I'm thinking of having a bet on both :)

    1. I like Germany - I'm very fond of Klose but I fear he might be a smidge to old...

  8. I feel this way with the Olympics, a bit less so for Commonwealth Games - afraid I can't get that excited about World Cup but understand why you do - and I love the idea that we really all are connected by kicking a football around.
