In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary - Aaron Rose

On Monday night I'd planned for the family to see the VIVID in the gardens but everyone, including my partner declined. Apparently my enjoyment of VIVID is insatiable. So I headed in solo. It was easier to walk quickly and move through the people without my entourage. On Monday, the city was celebrating 200 years to the day, of the birth of Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. I'd been there for the Bicentenary celebrations. We were married in the Rose Garden. I'd spent many a day at performances, parties and picnics there. Even the preschooler playgroup, the Dandy Lions, had been part of my kids life growing up. When each child turned 4, we'd head off and follow the footsteps of the fabulous Pamela Allen's wayward little duck in Alexander's Outing. It felt fitting that I'd returned again for their special day. It's funny how much a part of the backdrop the gardens have played in my life.

We are lucky to have such a beautiful location accessible to all the people of Sydney.

The charm of this city makes it hard not to love life!

  1. Thank you for sharing your VIVID visits - I've lived vicariously through you. I need to make a note when it is on so that I can try to arrange a visit down when it happens next year.
Sending heaps of hugs your way xox

Wow, 200 years of the botanic gardens. I was in Sydney for Australia Day 200. That was so incredibly special (and sooooo long ago now).

  18. The botanical gardens look so pretty lit up like that. I can't believe your "entourage" didn't want to go also?! So surprising! Looks like you had fun even without them though. :)

  19. All I can is 'wow.' Shame your lot wouldn't come with you, but maybe it was more magical alone? Something you can keep to yourself and treasure. Think of it like that.

    Thanks for sharing.

  20. Please don't get me wrong - I didn't mind going solo - the entourage are spoilt Sydneysiders who take our beautiful city for granted - they'd been 4 other sites. And then we went again on a boat on Saturday night!

  23. Well then you did the right thing...going alone is much more fun! I went to Vivid twice three years ago. Now we are out of Sydney and unlikely to return I am glad I went. I too love the Botanical gardens and in fact used to come into the city on many a weekend just to take pics there and out and about in the city!

  28. I fully agree with your title, and you got all of those in these photos. I missed the Botanical Gardens in my last visit in 2014, but was there my first time in Australia several years before. Sydney and suburbs always remain very dear to me, and i always reminisce every moment and pictures in my mind.
