Be the person you needed when you were young - Street art in Melbourne

I know it's a little banky, but I was quite taken with the idea behind this piece (above) in Hosier Lane. It's probably worth pondering, at least, and seeing what changes you could make.

Other pieces worth looking at:

Someone had fun with the Van Gogh exhibition that's currently on at the NGV (that we'd just attended - we've been seeing Van Gogh everywhere since!).

All in our stroll back to the car after a sensational lunch at Lucy Lui - if you haven't tried their Lucy Express (set lunch of 4 dishes and a glass of wine for $28.50, Mon - Fri), book yourself in.

Just walking the streets of Melbourne makes me love life!

  6. So admire artists because I've always thought how great to be that creative. Like them all, but love the Lest We Forget. I like your theme too...be the person. I've never been to Melbourne so this was great your sharing..thank you. Our small town will be having their Arts Festival this coming week-end. Always enjoy walking around and seeing the creations. :)

  9. Melbourne does have some great street art. I went a few times in the days of blogging conferences (2011,2012) and always enjoyed the more funky types of places there compared to Sydney.

  10. I love that quote: Be the person you needed when you were young. Sadly though, children of abuse rarely let anybody know what they are facing (I know I didn't). Still, I get to be the parent now, that I needed back then!

    1. I feel inadequate responding to you, but I think being an outspoken voice on behalf of those that don't have it (or don't know they can have it) is probably helping many children survive abuse or escape abuse. We have a responsiblity to watch out for ALL kids at risk. Thank you for so generously sharing.

  11. I remember Jo Tracey used to share pics of Melbourne Street art and I was always a little surprised at how amazing some of it was / is. I was in Melbourne earlier this year for a few days but did no exploring - and barely left the hotel as I was there for a conference thingy and we had evening events etc...

I love the top quote or those similar about being the friend you wish you had etc...

  12. I'm with you - you never get sick of the street art in Melbourne (thanks for the shout-out in the comments, Deb). Art- especially when it's as accessibly as this - is absolutely part of loving life.

  13. Melbourne is a great city. I love that "Be the person you needed when you were young". BE is my word of the year so this really resonates with me. Gives me another element of my BE mindset. Love it.

Thanks for taking part in the "My Sunday Best" meme.

  19. What a fantastic deal, I wonder if Lucy Lu knows about this place. There are a lot worse things you can see around town than Van Gogh, some very cool art.

  22. I was fascinated by the street art you found around your city. It is mesmerizing. The first mural made me think of the kids who are abandoned and on the streets in larger cities in the U.S. Even more difficult when the Covid virus runs rampant through these unsuspecting kids. I wish EVERYONE could see that mural.

I'm a huge VanGogh fan, so I actually enjoyed these artists take on his work.

  23. Great variety of murals. I quite like the Van Gogh ones. I think the first murals I found was on a trip to Melbourne, but Perth now also has lots of beautiful murals being painted all the time.
Thanks for your visit and for participating in Monday Murals Lydia.
