We had a lovely little overnight getaway in the holidays, and while COVID and the bushfires put a dampener on our plans, we still managed to have a great time. A lot of things were closed due to COVID and some of the bush walks, including the one to the Glow Worm Glen were closed due to bush fire damage.
It was very interesting to see that the hotel in Sutton Forest had a really serious COVID safety plan in action - restaurant was closed, bathrooms in the public spaces were closed, staff in masks, number of people limited to 4 or 6 in the billard room and other lounge rooms etc.
On the way home the Headland Hotel made us sign in before entering and you got a sticker when you showed your ticked app, and were allowed to then enter. The barman questioned where my sticker was when my long hair hid it from view.
Twin Falls - though you can only just make out the one on the left |
These small towns seem more organised than both Sydney and Canberra in a lot of ways. It was an interesting experience.
The more this is our normal, the easier it is to see what's safe and what isn't, and I guess our job is to remove ourselves from anything that isn't.
I was really loving life over the break, easing ever so slowly into real life again.
Stay safe, and stay out of elevators, people!

What are you loving this week? One of the things I really loved, was seeing my Instagram look like my real instagram for a change! Small thing but it really made me smile!

Fabulous images - I loved following along on Insta. We found a similar thing up north - some places required you to check in on an app while others passed you a sheet where people were supposed to put their correct details down, but some clearly didn't. It irked me in that the contact tracing is there for a reason. Rant over.
ReplyDeleteI think this is showing what complete jerks we are. The number of people not isolating or quarantining properly is disgraceful.
DeleteGorgeous pics Lydia and I love that saying about your Instagram looking more like your old Instagram. A lot of people I know seem to be taking mini breaks at the moment and doing some travel which I think is great for small businesses and the tourism industry.
ReplyDeleteOh... and people's sanity!
DeleteFor us in Sydney, it's off the cards again...but fingers crossed only for a week or two...
DeleteBeautiful scenery and wildlife. Glad you had a nice break. #lovin'lifelinky
ReplyDeleteReally was goregous!! Plan to go back again...hopefully soon!
DeleteWhat a beautiful getaway! I'd love to visit that area. I bet it was cold! We had a few days in the Granite Belt which I loved and will share next week. Love the photos - especially the first one of the kangaroo near the tree and fence.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing those. I don't know anything about that region but a quick google showed me that it's quite stunning!
Delete#KCACOLS beautiful images. Thank you for posting these, in need of a virtual gateaway.
ReplyDeleteI grew up not far away from this area so I always enjoy seeing great photos of the falls and landscapes! Isn't it strange how we have to qualify things by saying it was before travel bans were in place? I'm glad to read of the way some small towns are coping and doing the right thing. Happy to see your Intsagram back on track, for a while at least! #Lifethisweek
ReplyDeleteIt must have been lovely to have a touch of normality even if only for a short time. Your photos are beautiful. #lifethisweek
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard balancing the desire to travel and support these small communities and following the guidelines. We had a couple of weekends away before the new orders and it was so good to have a change of scenery and spend some tourist dollars! I have to agree with you, how well the regional communities and in particular, business are dealing with Covid, it felt so much safer than Sydney.
ReplyDeleteLove these gorgeous snaps. It's good to see places taking Covid seriously too

ReplyDeleteHere in middle America, the small towns are the most lax and dismissive of any precautions about Covid. Glad to see that things are different in your country.
ReplyDeleteI'm used to Kangaroos being in zoos, amazing to see photos of them out and about in the countryside like deer are here.
