The enchantment of babies



We went to Currawong and played some bush golf when a family of ducks appeared with their duckling.

They watched us for awhile and then continued merrily on their way.

While not the most exotic (or scary) creatures we saw on the weekend, it was something about the baby that made us all squeal with delight.

There's something about babies. 

I was never a person really into the whole 'baby thing'...until now. For some reason I love buying the cute little clothes for people. Even people I don't know...

I wonder if it's because I know it's a part of my life that's over, never to return?

Do we need to lose something before we really appreciate it?

I sometimes find myself smiling at the random little person in the supermarket. I love it when someone takes one of our much loved books or toys from the fence. I love the idea that it will bring some other little person joy. 



Don't get me wrong, I'm not intending to go back. We already have one big age gap between kids that tires me out a little when I realise in 6 years time I'll be listening to the same school speech or climbing the same hurdle.

Maybe that's why I now delight in little babies? It's all care and no responsibility.


Maybe it just means I'll be a great grandmother?

It's probably why we got a dog. She's definitely my baby. And we spoil her with love. Because what's not to love about a dog?

    There is something touching about seeing ducks taking care of their babies. We also have a dog "baby" :) Waiting to be a grandmother some day, may be.

    Lovely photos I like going into Hyde Park here and watching the ducks but after a while they do drive me quackers :-)

    Baby animals look so cuddly; even the ones you wouldn't necessarily want to cuddle. Enjoyed seeming them.

    Lovely post ! Watching birds frolicking around on the grass is so calming experience. I agree there is something about babies that gives warmth to the heart.

    What a cute little family. It's relaxing to watch animals work and play. :-)

    You asked about my picture. Yes I took it at an angle but the reflection was mostly across the street to my right.

    Here is the address where I took my picture (12 Rue des Deux Ponts, 75004 Paris, France). It was in front of a Carrefour express market. If you use Google maps street view and (drop down the little man) you can see the mirror that I used. It's on the left side of the wall in front of the market.

    I love ducks and geese, but I think I'm over babies. I guess I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never be a grandmother either, I have five children and none of them want kids. I did get gooey over my niece's baby that she had this year, but definitely not broody!

    My youngest is now nearly ten and there's been no new babies born into our immediate family since, so we're missing babies at the moment. While during my own baby years (I have four), I loved it but I suppose took it for granted. Now, although I couldn't have another one for the same reason you mention in your post and because I'm older and tireder! ;-) But I can't wait to have a baby to cuddle and buy cute little clothes for again and as you've said give back without the responsibility lol. Great post xxx
