Lunar New Year in Sydney

I've mentioned almost annually that this is my favourite time of year. It's an almost two-week celebration of food and friends. The city becomes vibrant and alive, and even with COVID measures, the streets became the place to be.

The Lion Dance comes past the restaurants in Darling Square so there's no need to mix in with the crowd.

We went to play Mah Jong in Darling Harbour but alas, the advertised tables were nowhere to be found.

We were luckily able to push our dinner sitting forward and then amble around the streets of Haymarket before making our way up George Street to look at the lanterns.

The lunar New year is definitely a time to visit the city as you can spend as much or as little as you like and still have a wonderful (and kid-friendly) time.

What's on in Darling Harbour, The Rocks,  and City of Sydney.

Do you celebrate the Lunar New Year?

  6. What a really lovely event. We have something similar in our home town but the last time we went it was pre Covid. Sad you didn't get to find the MahJong tables though.
