Firstly, a trigger warning. If you have experienced loss due to a car accident, don't bother reading this. It's just a little poem and not worth any emotional distress it might cause.
I was really at a loss for what to talk about this month so this is all you get:
The sounds in that moment is all I can recall.
A high pitched screech of rubber failing to grip the tar.
Tinkling as glass implodes.
The clangoring of metal concertinaing into the wall.
The order often changes when I am forced to think of that shattering moment.
Just an agonizing echo of the tumult
when I look where my leg used to be,
or at the passenger seat, now forever empty.

ReplyDeleteIt's just fiction on the prompt of accident.
DeleteWell done, this was a tricky prompt. I went with a positive spin and turned it into 5 things I came across by accident.
ReplyDeleteI feel really dumb when people point out a different path than the obvious....I started trying for that but couldn't get there. Then just went with the obvious, which I don't really like to do for these prompts....no imaginative stretch. Will get to yours shortly. Looking forward with it.
DeleteWell done with the prompt. Take care, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to interpret the prompt! Brilliant!

It’s beautiful, but I’m so glad it was fiction.

Oh my goodness, Lydia this poem was powerful. #TellUsAbout
ReplyDeleteYikes, that is heavy! I’ve been in accidents, and fortunately, walked away with nothing but back pain. Well, that and a ruined car.
ReplyDeleteThese things can happen suddenly. The car in front of you stops and you stop, but then someone comes up from behind, speeding. Pretty scary.
the sounds of an accident stay with one a long time. I'm glad the loss isn't something you've had to experience. I know people that have and it's hard. I'm so very grateful that even with quite a few car accidents, all my loved ones have been fine.
ReplyDeleteit's very traumatic. I've been involved in quite a few car accidents but thankful I haven't lost anyone yet in them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a powerful poem!
