What I learnt from Turbo

Yesterday we headed off to the screening of Turbo - The kids laughed and laughed, but so did I, at completely different things. As an F1 fan, this was the perfect movie to gear me up for next weekend's trip to the Grand Prix. While the film is Indy-centric (boohiss!), racing is racing and there is a close enough rivalry for me to get the jokes. So here's what I learnt from Turbo:
1. Not all kids movies need to have kids soundtracks. I loved the choice of music in this film. I've had an earworm of Jump Around ever since!
2. Some great attitudes when facing fears 'What happens if you wake up tomorrow and you're powers are gone?' 'Then I'd better make the most of today'
3. Funnniest joke in the film, for a F1 snob (who looks down on the Indy cousin), is the description "left turn, left turn...what happens next? oh, left turn!"
4. Wisdom in the words 'Is this really necessary? No, but it's fun' Maybe it's important to bring fun into all that you have to do...
5. I loved the media savvy Guy Gange, but as a longtime Prost then Alesi fan, I take offense that in US films, the European villain is always French!! They really weren't like that!!
6. I learnt that apparently all racing is good to watch, even if it's inside a snails mind.
7. Sometimes, when people don't support your dreams, it's because they're scared for you, and it may just take time for them to come round to the idea.
8. No dream is too big, and no dreamer too small (this might actually become my new mantra)
9. I liked that it reinforces that being different is ok, and that you don't have to try to fit in with everyone else - that you'll find your tribe eventually.
10. The big question in life, do you want to settle for good enough or crazy awesome?

Linking up with SlapdashMama at the Lounge - and counting down to a crazy awesome weekend!

  1. While I wasn't planning on seeing Turbo (actually I had never even heard about it until I read this post but given I don't see many kid's movies lately), the 'review' you gave it has made me think it may be one to hire when it comes out on DVD !
    I especially liked points 2,3,4,7,8,9 and 10 !!
Have the best week - hopefully it won't be quite so cra-azy !!!

    1. It has cameo's by Andretti, Franchitti and co - I did notice I seemed to be laughing at things people near me weren't laughing at. But Guy Gange is hilarious!!

  2. Consistently over the past twenty years the best films, with the best characters and dialogue have been the kids films. This sounds like it doesn't disappoint.

    1. The film critics at The Guardian speak of us having lived through a Golden Era of animated cinema. Apparently, this is all ending though - supposedly "Monsters University" and "Planes" are evidence of the decline. Having seen neither, I can't comment but that's what the pros are saying, anyway.

    2. Kids films are kids films. Critics need to remember that. Just as blowing sh*t up is very therapeutic for some of us, which means Die Hard is a great film, if that's what you're after (actually Die Hard 4 - hilarious!)

  3. Poor Alain Prost - he used to get picked on for being too serious and, of course, French (an offence to supporters of Nigel Mansell).

I was a Stefan Johansson man myself. He ended up in CART racing for a while. I agree with you - boo, hiss!

    1. Don't start me on Senna - fortunately I'd been warned or I would have gone NUTS.

Prost was magnificent, tactical and skilled. I am very sad the racing Gods didn't let him win his last race... But Kimmi is with Ferrari next year so I'm jumping back in with the Tinfosi. Might grab me a hat this weekend...

  5. I was going to take Mr 4 to see this today but life and being lazy got in the way. I love kids movies that have stuff in them for the adults.

  6. I'm hanging to take my kids to see this - and what great timing just before your solo mission away, bet you're just pumped. Kid's movies do have some great messages - not sure if they always take them on though, at least we do! :) Em @ Have A Laugh On Me
