Grace's quote from last Friday spoke to me with a message I really needed to hear, and sums up my feelings nicely, in it's simplicity. "If someone rains on your parade, poke them in the eye with your umbrella." Don't let their negativity or lack of support tarnish your head space.
If your dreams are too big for those around you, it doesn't mean there's a
problem with the dream. Just prove them wrong.
If they aren't in your corner, cheering for you, be your own hypeman. As Oprah once said "The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate."
No matter what, don't dull your shine for anyone else.

ReplyDeleteWise words! Celebrating the little things especially is very important to me. Cheers for linking with The Lounge X
ReplyDeleteYep! Well said.
ReplyDeleteAnd besides, if the person dulling your shine doesn't have what you're striving for, then they're simply not qualified to give you advice anyway ...
Happy Friday!

Thanks for the pep talk!! I too easily give in and lose faith and confidence when someone 'rains on my parade'. I'm such a sensitive soul, but yes, it's important to keep on shining.
ReplyDeleteit's hard to do though when it actually happens. Sometimes we need to shake it off and not let those words or opinions burden our heart.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree with this!!

Very welcome se words as always Lydia :)
ReplyDeleteAh yes... good quote! I've experienced some negativity lately so the quote's spot on!

I like this and it needs to go for kids too... just because you become a mum, doesn't mean your dreams need to stop.. maybe just slow down a little.
ReplyDeleteSo very true!! Love this. Oh I've poked a few people in the eye with my umbrella. :)
ReplyDeleteWell said Lydia - one of my favourite quotes is that well-known one by Maryanne Williamson:
ReplyDelete"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Oh yes! I needed to read this today - I needed to be reminded that I won't let anyone dull my life with their own thoughts ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it, thanks for the reminder xxx
Right - I have that umbrella at the ready :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely sentiment. Though I almost actually got poked in the eye with an umbrella today, by accident thank goodness.

ReplyDeleteSO SO TRUE!! I have stopped telling people about my dreams and plans because I am sick of all the doubters and haters!
ReplyDeleteLovely words to begin my week. I personally use the phrase "Blow your own trumpet" - nobody else will. It's something I live by. x
ReplyDeleteYes, or to take it one step further ... don't live your life according to what other people think is important. Be true to yourself. Sorry if that sounds like it came straight from a meme or something.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably struggling more with lack of encouragement from people close to me whose feedback would mean a lot, rather than struggling with negatives. Sometimes it can feel like the same thing though.
Dead right Lydia. Just have to keep backing myself and doing the things I love.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so true, something we all might need to remember on occasion, I know I do.
