We went for our annual whale watching trip - it was a little disappointing compared to previous years, but alas with nature, there is only so much you can orchestrate.
We did get three breaches, all of which I missed because of scanning the wrong horizon - but I did catch the slashdowns in a Tantalus style punishment...
The weather was nice and the conditions not too bad, and we did see a couple of whales so I can't complain.
There is a certain contentedness that being on the harbour brings, regardless of the purpose and outcome.
I never tire of Sydney from the water.
Have you been whale watching this year?
Linking this old post with #SaturdayCritters because I'm buzzed they saw Orca a few days ago and hoping to maybe get out and see some today!
I have never been whalewatching! What fun :)

August 1 was Herman Melville's 200th birthday. Ah, is that the white whale I see?
ReplyDeleteWe have a white whale here - he comes regularly each year. Was still on his way down when we went. They call him Mingaloo.
DeleteI’ve only seen whales two or three times in my life and it was thrilling. We just got back from vacation on the US Gulf Coast and we saw dolphins twice day going up and downtown he beach.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the photos I have never seen them in real life before
ReplyDeleteHave a sharkfesttastic week :-)
We need to go and enjoy this. A huge Awww.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday. ♥
Whales are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteshame you missed some great breaches but seeing the whales would be worthwhile I think.
ReplyDeleteWow - fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! How awesome! Whale-watching is on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteThis trip looks absolutely amazing I love the photos #TwinklyTuesday
ReplyDeleteAmazing! We've never done a whale watch cruise (here in Maine, USA), but I hear they are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten to see a sperm whale with calf once and would love to see more!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2019/08/mmmmmmm.html
We don't really get those here (humpbacks migrate - and ours are white underneath and the northern humpbacks are grey underneath and neither cross the equator). I'm hoping to see some orcas in the wild next year....there's a lot of different whales to cross off the list!
DeleteGreat pics anyway! #TwinklyTuesday
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely green with envy. What an amazing experience, you are so lucky and thank you for sharing your memories with us. Fabulous photos too :-) x

I’ve not ever been whale watching, but the idea intrigues me! Lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is epic. You should print it, and frame it! I'd love to go whale watching!
ReplyDeleteIt's always exciting to see what nature has to show! The photo you got are great. I do hope to get to go whale watching sometime soon.

My Corner of the World
Absolutely breathtaking! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI went whale watching from Sydney a few years ago and came away with numerous photos of splashes in the water.
ReplyDeleteThat is the hazard, random timing or nature...
DeleteAmazing
ReplyDeleteI have only been whale watching once. Thankfully, the whales were very active on that trip and we saw a lot of them! It is still one of my fondest memories and one of our best experiences on vacation. And I agree that water and meditation go together. We do not live by an ocean, but travel to one at least once a year. #MLSTL
ReplyDeleteNope I have never been whale watching or watching anythng else except a show in Florida when we went to Universal Studios I think. I think there was something like that, but it was dolphins. That was very cool & they're so smart, but up close & personal... unpredictable... nope.. not me! I'll just look at your pictures and read about your experiences is good enough for me. THANKS FOR SHARING! HUGS
ReplyDeleteWow! Hope to have some fantastic sightings someday
ReplyDeletegreat action photos. Love seeing the water.

Lovely photos, I've only ever seen whales in the far distance
ReplyDeleteLydia you are lucky...... I have never seen a whale nor gone for one. Thanks to you, your post shows what I am missing. One fine day I shall see a whale or school whales.
ReplyDeleteWow.... I would love to do this... Michelle
