I've coined a new blessing for these post Covid times. Having been caught up in the border closure chaos in January, I'm a little gun-shy on venturing out of State (which is stupid but it's where my head is at).
I have a decision to make - we will only get one holiday this year, in April so I need to book soon. Do I risk it and book Tasmania or a Queensland island - or take a big risk and punt on WA or do I just plan something closer to home that we can drive to? Or do I just not bother at all?
It unsettles me a little that I'm overly worrying about this. Remember, I was the person that went to the northern most settlement on the planet because I was 'close' by. I have had a fear of flying for decades (stemming from a bomb scare and emergency landing when I was 12) but it's never been greater than my love of travel so I've sucked it up as a means to an end. Now I'm thinking 'Do I really want to be on a plane with that germy air?" and "Do I really want to sit next to a stranger, not spaced?".
More over, I'm thinking "Can I really be bothered dealing with refunds and credits again?".
A while ago, I said we were all a little changed by this. I am changed a lot. In a way I don't like. I guess it's really time to write that letter to my post-Covid self I talked about.
Not relevant but looks a little like the Mockingjay |
So, I have a decision to make. Cast your votes in the comments:
1. Tasmania
2. Northern Territory
3. Heron Island
4. Kangaroo Island and Fleurieu Peninsula
4. Beach house in NSW
5.Suggestions?
Linking with #BlueMonday and #RubyTuesdayToo just for the photo.
I feel much the same and having cancelled one road trip to QLD (and a tonne of accommodation) I just can't face doing it all over again. We've decided it's not worth the hassle and that we can look forward to NSW holidays with relative ease and already have a couple of short trips in the pipeline so the NSW beach house gets my vote!
ReplyDeleteAnd I should have listened to you. ARGHHHHHHH!
DeleteI absolutely loved Tasmania when we visited in 2015! Having had to cancel a holiday to Kingscliff in NSW during 2020 though, I'm a little nervous to book an interstate holiday just yet - but that's me. Out next little holiday is in a couple of weeks and is on the Gold Coast - staying in our own state. Good luck with your decision!
ReplyDeleteI bit the bullet and booked flights to Hobart. FIVE hours later there is announced rogue cases in NSW and Vic. Of course. I am kicking myself.
DeleteWe are looking at Tasmania too! Hubby and I have been very cautious because at 73 he needs to be careful. The flipside is we love travelling and now that overseas is out for the moment, it is a great time to discover our own country. So my vote would be for Tassie although I live in Queensland and the islands are beautiful too. WA is also on my list. Decisions, decisions!
ReplyDeleteWA is AMAZING. It's so incredible. And weirdly under-rated. I left it too late to get on any island except Daydream.
DeleteI'd say Tasmania as I'd definitely go there if I had the choice. It looks so lovely. (I've only been to Hobart.)
ReplyDeleteMy bro, SIL and niece just took off on a 10 day driving holiday into NSW today. They were to go to the Blue Mountains / Hunter Valley (are they different places?) but decided to briefly go as far as the Jenolyn (sp?) caves as they were worried about border closures etc. I'm assuming they think they can drive back asap if something happens.
Yep - and a car is way less germy than a plane. Jenolan Caves is great - weirdly fascinating. I love it there.
DeleteI would vote for Tasmania, it seems to be a fairly safe destination and so beautiful. We are heading to Qld (from regional NSW) later this month and am fearful of disruptions to our plans and cancellations etc. I hear you! #lifethisweek
ReplyDeleteI'm the same. I need to get to Sydney to see my parents but our premier has a habit of closing the borders quickly & applying quarantine rules retrospectively and I don't want to risk getting stuck in Sydney. I don't think I'd be as concerned coming from NSW as your premier doesn't shut the borders and you can always get home - but then the opposite applies & one case can turn greater Sydney into a hotspot. It's a tough call. We're staying within the state this year for our holiday I think.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you in terms of inter-state travel at the moment. I cannot decide. I'm meant to be going to a gig {if it goes ahead} in Brissy in March and I haven't bothered booking anything yet. I'd vote for NSW Beach house - because I feel like at least we will be able to continue to travel within our own state
ReplyDeleteLuckily I have no desire to travel or money to put towards it. However, even if I did I would not be leaving NSW. So much rests on the ways in which premiers close borders. Learning to love being in your city and state might continue a while longer. Thank you for linking up your blog post today. Next week's optional prompt is 7/51 Self Care Stories #1. 15 Feb. In this one, I am using the new category in my blog called Ageing Stories because it was a good fit. Look forward to seeing you there too. Denyse.
ReplyDeleteAre you pushing me into talking about how old I am???? ARGH! (Heheheh)
DeleteCloser to home is my vote--but go!
