Sydney Harbour - Share my snaps!

 

We had our first day on the harbour since lockdown - I think everyone in the group was just really happy to be taking in the sights of our beautiful city in the fresh air and luxury even though the weather was not great. Having been boiling hot the day before, it was too cold to swim and I had to change into warmer clothes before leaving home.

The sight of the Squid Game doll brought a rush of excitement though I was perplexed at the crowd (and slightly concerned if I'm honest, so I decided I would go early the next morning to see it).

Our harbour never fails to delight and we are so lucky to be able to share the day with friends. Even with reduced COVIDsafe numbers, it was still a fun party, though the karoke was extremely dubious.

 We had lunch down in Sugarloaf Bay, looking at the remote little cottage that had sold for $10 million a few years before. So Sydney! In our defence we were googling to see if you could hire it on Stayz for a weekend...

Then the sun set, again the clouds not quite giving us the spectacular offering of nature, yet it had all been so long that we ooohed and ahhed anyway. 

I am still in the throws of release exhuberance, where any view that isn't out my window seems spectacular!

The sunset and it was time to call it a day.

We headed back home as the city lit up, igniting a new beauty as the buildings sparkled invitingly.

A travel blogger once said to me that she didn't like Sydney, and all I could think was 'Well you were just doing it wrong." (This is actually my refrain for Singapore - if you can't have a good time there, you weren't doing it right). 

It is not an easy city to do on the cheap, but there is a lot of free ways to see all the sights.

We may have missed out on VIVID for a second year running but the city at night puts on a pretty good show regardless.

One of the biggest luxuries in the world is to truly love where you live. Or I guess in Sydney's case, be able to afford to live in the city you love.

Squid Game Doll in Sydney

Like the rest of Sydney, I had to race out to see the Squid Game Doll. And the experience did not fail to delight. 

It was a genius way to get more people flooding The Rocks Market.

 

I rounded the corner and a little child started singing the song. The Dad smiled embarrassed as I grinned broadly at her.

I had gone early to miss the crowds (but there was no early enough evidently, though I was stillable to space. When the head turned, some of us played the game 'unofficially' but when the head turned and the 'lasers' turned on, half the crowd squealled in delighted surprise. Me included.

People in the crowd dressed for the occasion, adding to the atmosphere.

When I went, the people spaced themselves (and vax-certs were checked prior to entering the fenced section) . It was a good way to ease into being in a 'crowd'.

It was actually surprising how fun it was. I then roamed around The Rocks Market and remembered how much I liked being there. All the things we've missed these last few months.

The Rocks was geared up for Halloween so there as a festive feel to the streets.

The Rocks has an Immersive Art exhibtiion on in the streetsand Sugar Republic is back, openning on the 6th Nov.

Reflection of the sun

 

I went to sit at my desk the other afternoon and a spark caught my eye.

 

Looking over to the window, I was almost blinded.

It has reflected the sun before but never with this intensity.
