I've really struggled to read anything at all this month. I hope to rectify that in the weeks off next month. So super short post this month.
The Confidential Agent - unlike The Quiet American and Honorary Consul, this book lacks the murky ethical discomfort that I had reading those books. It's easy and entertaining. Would recommend the other two books over this one.
Love Stories. I'm not loving this the way everyone else does. It's interesting and has some really great bits in it but I'm labouring through it. I think part of the problem is I'm listening to it and I might be doing better if I was reading it. Again, I'd recommend Boy Swallows Universe over this (however, the rest of the world loves this book so maybe just ignore me).

I have Trent Dalton's newest book Lola in the Mirror to start. I have heard good things about it.

DeleteNot aware anything is being made about Lola in media …not to say it won’t, but Boy Swallows Universe is on Netflix. Love stories was for me, a gentle read and I enjoyed it very much…but am 💯 Trent fan as you know! Denyse
DeleteI have heard so many good things about The Quiet American. It's hard to believe it was written almost 70 years ago. My TBR list is a mile long but I should make some room for that classic. Trent Dalton is an author new to me.

ReplyDeleteI read Love Stories in fits and starts and enjoyed it better this way.,I adored Lola in the Mirror and plan to watch Boys Swallows Universe while my husband is walking the Kokoda Track!
ReplyDeleteLove stories was like that for me too! I remember listening to it on the way to Newcastle Writers Festival where I saw Trent speak about it and you did too! As for BSU on Netflix, it was quite gruesome in parts …as is the story…but I think they did Trent’s Book Proud! Denyse

The last I read was when I had my 4 days at Stradbroke Island. I do still have some books waiting for me to get back to them ... so hopefully soon! ReplyDeleteIt's ok to have a reading slump sometimes Lydia. For me, I find that it usually means that I haven't found the right book. I loved Love Stories, as I've loved all of Trent Daltons books. At the moment I'm reading Jo Tracey's new book One For Sorrow and can't put it down.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading more than usual, Lydia, as I haven't been working on any jigsaw puzzles. I am almost through the Shetland series by Ann Cleeves, which I've really enjoyed.
