Useless wedding information you might never need to know

I was invited to a kitchen tea but when I turned up, the welcome sign announced it was a bridal shower. When I commented that I thought it was a kitchen tea, my friend said 'it's the same thing, isn't it? What's the difference?' I replied that I thought it was basically the gift you gave.

So when I got home, I did a bit of googling.
A kitchen tea is traditionally just an afternoon tea and you give gifts specifically for the kitchen. A bridal shower is to shower the bride with gifts and you give anything (and there may be alcohol at this even and it can be a lunch). It is usually only female friends and relatives that are invited but in the US apparently they are now unisex.

So there you have it. I know, amazing.

Raise your glass to love and all the celebrations that it entails.

  1. Thanks for enlightening me, I always wondered what the difference was! But now I'm intrigued, what was the event you went to... A kitchen tea or a bridal shower?

  2. In my circle, the bridal shower is a booze up. Didn't know you were meant to do gifts!

  3. I haven't been invited to a kitchen tea in years - maybe it's because I know very little about a kitchen,,lol

  6. I do not enjoy a kitchen tea. It seems redundant in times when most people live with each other before getting married anyway. I didn't know a bridal shower was different to a hen's. It makes no sense to have all of those...how many presents do we have to give?!

  7. I had a kitchen tea and a hen's night. Two separate events. Oh yeah, we knew how to party back then. Mind you I spent most of my hen's night in tears because I was drunk crying ... mainly because nobody got me a stripper. I cringe at that now LOL.

  8. Like Leanne above I had a Kitchen Tea and a Hen's Night. The Hens night was all about getting trashed, kitchen tea exactly as you described it above, any everyone brought me a printed or hand-written copy of their favourite recipe, some of which I still cook to this day :)

  9. Hmm thanks for the clarification. I've not been invited to a kitchen tea or bridal shower. It's always been a hens' night. Oh actually I had a bridal shower lol, but nobody brought gifts. It was just a high tea kind of thing.
