Canberra - Share my Snaps!

 A month or two ago, we had a quick overnight in Canberra for a wedding. It was out on Pialligo Estate in a charming olive grove. It is a beautiful location and we had a great time. While only 10 minutes from our hotel, it felt like we were in the country side, and quite removed from the city.

Sometimes just the idea of being in the countryside is enough to refresh and revive you.

The next day we say the Van Gogh before it finished and had a quick lunch at Tipsy Bull before heading home. It was very short break but a refreshing change of scenery all the same.

We stayed in a hotel we hadn't stayed in before and that added a refreshing element of unfamiliar to the weekend. 

I found this one (above) striking and the light in it so memorable, though it was the sunflowers that everyone had come to see. And isn't that life? We turn up for something but it is something else completely that makes the experience so memorable. We went for the wedding but came back feeling revived. 

And of course, it wouldn't be a trip to the National Gallery without a pitstop at the Yayoi Kusama. Sometimes the familiar brings joy too.

Canberra - Share my Snaps!

 

I know I said I'd be on a break but I do like the Share My Snaps! prompt. As the kids missed out on their final school camp, a friend and I took them to Canberra to see the things they would have seen - dubbed the Snore Memorial, Fartiment House and the Pooseum by one of them. I will admit I laughed more than I should have. 

We had a great time and I found it really interesting. 

The weather proved less chilly than expected given it had snowed on the weekend!          

                                                                                  

Floriade is now spread over the city, and due to limited numbers we missed out on the Last Post at the War Memorial and getting into Questacon at all.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

We ate well and walked a lot (10 kms on the first day and 9kms on the second) so intellectual and physical exercise to feed the soul.

  

The Endeavor exhibition is worth a look as it includes both view points.

24 hours in Canberra - share my snaps!

We raced down for a jam-packed tour of the capital city. Sibling bonding was the main aim, and using the free night at the Novotel before it expired was the other. Plus get the money back with reciprocal benefit on our Powerhouse membership. Even though it's closing, it's still worth getting the membership, as I've already made $89 in discounts and free entries, and as we're off to the Wollongong museum next week, we'll have covered the membership cost, and any further visits are a saving.


Game Masters is smaller than the Sydney and Melbourne ones, but has some new games and less crowded so was definitely worth doing. And the three of us played together for awhile, then the two siblings, in a rare bonding these days - that pesky age gap causing the youngest to grow into an only child, as previously discussed.

Ode to Jeffrey Smart

Dreamworks was probably more of interest to me, though both of them liked drawing on the animation tablets at the end. I would have loved to do the Antartica VR but we were out of time, alas.









Then it was off to Nightfest for dinner. Having visited Floriade last year, I thought the lights and the band might be a lure for the kids. If nothing else, it meant dinner was sorted.






The next day was the morning at Questacon, still a favourite.




















Then my reward was lunch at Lazy Su before the drive home....
