Is this necessary?

This cracked me up while parking at the supermarket. Is anyone missing the big brick fence?

"Behind the clouds is the sun still shining"

I'd just finished my walk when I saw this crazy blanket of clouds. Strange but beautiful.
I just love the texture in these skies.

I feel like the Universe is telling me something....

These two pics appeal to me for some reason. They seem to be telling a story. One was walking home after seeing a comedian and the other was on the bay run.

And this I just love the symmetry and detail in nature.

Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves. Julia Morgan

The Apple store in Singapore is a gorgeous structure, a ball floating in the harbour. We strolled through just to look at the building, not the products.

It reminds me of a great Spanish restaurant we went to there, also in a ball building but on the other side of the harbour. many years ago.

Currawong

We were back at Currawong for our annual weekend away. It's getting harder to fill the homestead and a flurry of last minute cancels meant we were rattling around in it. So next November, we'll be in one of the smaller cottages, and give that a try.

Even though the clouds ruined the sunrises and sunsets, it was still a gloriously relaxing weekend with early morning paddleboarding, golf and finska.
A little swimming and just generally relaxing and good times in the sunshine with friends.
So wins all round for the humans this time.

Sydney Tower

This was just sitting on my camera - taken one afternoon as the late afternoon sun was making the Sydney tower gleam.

The simplest of pleasures bring great joy, if you really look.

Ostrich

There's an awkward gracefulness about the ostrich. They are beautiful yet strange at the same time.

These were taken at Auckland zoo when I went to see the kiwi....

Piha Beach

I'll be out most of this weekend, and leaving early Sunday morning to walk the 28 km of 7 Bridges for Cancer Council. (Well, really for myself but raising money for cancer council).

While in Auckland, the first thing I did was head to Piha Beach, based on a photo in Ali Wong's Instagram when she visited while on tour. It did not disappoint, but more on that to come in a more detailed post....

However, this picture make me smile for the wow factor and the memory.

Tall Ship

This is the tall ship that we did the shooting on. Now every time I see it, I smile. I even went to wave when I saw the crew member we remembered while they were docked and we went past on the silent disco. Very funny as I realised they'd have no idea who we were....

Funny how your experience can change the relevance of an item....walked past it a million times barely registering it. Now it's immediately joy inducing.

So not the best photos taken on my useless phone, but they do make me smile!

A bit of housekeeping: I am shutting the blog until mid October - around the 18th. I'll be on Instagram travelling all over the place, so keep an eye on there. So this is the last #FavouriteFotos for a month.

Unexpected smiles - State Library of NSW

While on the Fodi tour (discussed here & here), there were a few surprises for me that made me smile!

Firstly, before the tour started I walked past the children's play area to discover all the Wild Things were waiting to be read to....

The compass is on the floors of the stacks as you are several levels underground with no windows and apparently it can get disorientating for those who spend all day down there....

The footstools are used not just as a step ladder but to stop you getting crushed in the automatic shelving if somehow someone doesn't see you in there befre closing them to open another. BUT someone hadn't left the footstool there and that made me chuckle...

You would have all worked out how much I love the Harbour Bridge. My grandfather was there that day. What people don't know, while De Groot cut the first ribbon with his sword unofficially - they just tied it back together and cut it again officially (funny how that bit never got told to me in the story! Just the scandal of the man on the horse in protest). However, there was a ribbon both ends to be cut. This is part of the southern end ribbon that was cut as per protocol. Seeing this delighted me no end.

So while not striking photography, these are my #FavouriteFotos for this week...

Light & Fury

I don't know why I like this so much, but it reminded me of a Turner painting and his wonderful creation of light.

The sky looked so angry but it didn't turn to rain, if I recall. The glow isn't captured properly but it still makes for an interesting pic.

Possum Magic!

I got a surprise on our morning walk.

A possum was clearly disturbed from it's normal nocturnal routine. It seemed to be flustered by the activity. Hopefully it found a safe place to sleep as too many dogs and birds around, and of course, people.

I am a little worried this is the second time in a week I've seen an animal in the wrong place (or wrong time) in this area. Something seems to be disturbing them and that can't be a good thing!

Feed Me, Seymour!

It's not mean and green but I do suspect it might be from Outer Space and it might want to eat me....

Wombat

I adore wombats. Always have. You rarely see them at zoos because they're always sleeping in the burrow. This one was catching a few rays and it made me smile. Shame about the shadow but still love it!

Japan

I'm currently trying to find flights we can afford to japan in January (ideally in and out o Hiroshima and Nagoya) but landing in japan will do. Give me a nudge if you see any.

This was in Japan a few years ago now....I like the shadow on the ball as much as I like the whole statue...makes me think of the world.

At first glance...

This made me laugh, when I scrolled thru my phone I thought 'OMG! What is that/! It loooks like a murder scene....' but no, it was when I got a faulty tube of hair dye and was so mad I was going to write to them as it shot out the bottom of the tube everywhere.

Of course, by the time I'd cleaned up the mess, with a little staining but not enough to fuel the rage, I let it go and moved on...

What did you see when you first saw it?

New link up coming

I was thinking about an old photo that I like, and went back to find it on the blog...it got me thinking, it's a waste to have some of these great images sitting there neglected.

So, starting Monday, I'll host a link up for favourite photos. They have to be over 2 years old.

When commenting and visiting other blogs, you are not required to read the words (unless you want to), just look at the photos.

You must at least comment on the host and the post before yours in the link up.

The linky will be open for 2 days.

So join me next week for #FavouriteFotos
