The gift of boredom

I've done nothing of interest this week except cut through red tape with a machete. While there's a level of satisfaction, it's extremely dull and tedious. I haven't even been out. I was thinking how bored I was, when it hit me. I've had an extremely eventful few years, and this is the first time I can remember when I wasn't worried or stressed with one matter or another.

So in a short post for #LovingLifeLinky, I'm celebrating boredom. There's some truth to the saying "When you pay attention to boredom it gets unbelievably interesting". Jon Kabat-Zinn

And of course, following Hedy Lamarr's advice 'Boring people don't have to stay that way' so I've organised to sneak out for an hour tonight to catch my last comedian of the Sydney Comedy Festival...

What are you loving this week?

  3. Love that thought from Jon Kabat-Zinn that by paying attention to boredom it can get unbelievably interesting! I hope you enjoy the visit to the comedy festival. What I'm loving this week is the same as Jo - blue skies and finally having some time to try and catch up on a heap of jobs. #TeamLovinLife

  6. There is nothing wrong with doing nothing. Sometimes, that's what is needed.

  7. Love that quote, it's a ripper! I can do nothing for quite a long time as just sitting and thinking is something I love to do... although I'm not great at truly doing nothing, which would require not thinking at all. Meditation and I don't jibe well together!

  8. The pace I go at sometimes, I relish my days of having nothing to do. I could quite easily do more of that.

  9. I wish I could find the time to be 'bored.' I'm going to schedule it in I think! There's a book in my bedside draw that I've had since Christmas and I still haven't had a moment to myself where I can get fully immersed in it. Thanks for the reminder to slow down a little. #TwinklyTuesday

    1. Busy is still boring. I've been going from meeting to meeting but it's so tedious and dull. Achieving a lot but nothing worth talking about.

    2. When I said I hadn't been out, I meant to dinner or a concert or show....I've been out of the house!

  10. When my kids were all tiny, I used to love the wide open spaces of time that we had with NOTHING going on! They got very creative in the use of their time, and I lament the loss of all that lovely boredom.

    1. Apparently all creative thought comes after 15 mins of boredom (and the reflective thought it leads to)
