First of the Month Fiction - May

I've had a whirlwind month, that's been both fabulous and drama filled (more of that to come later on the blog). So straight into it. Add a story that's 100 words exactly or one less than 30 words into the comments, then link your blog (if you have one)

Mine is of the under 30:
As the coffin was lowered, she knew her world had shattered beyond repair. Forcing a sad smile at the little girl clutching her leg, she vowed to rewrite their story.

  1. Looking forward to reading about all your adventures! Here's my FotMF:

She lifted the lid and stared, astonished, at the contents. The warm glow hit her face like gentle sunshine. This was no normal pencil box.

  2. Every breath sounded like it would be the last.
    Until the last.

  3. Kevin dragged back deeply on his smoke before flicking it to the ground and grinding it out with his heel. He nodded at the coffin , "You can burn him now."

  4. First Bowie, then Prince. Marisa’s world was slowly imploding. As if it wasn’t bad enough that her mother had scratched Disc 2 of her Dylan Anthology while cleaning her room – “Mum! I am 46, you don’t need to clean my bedroom anymore!” she remembers screaming at the time.
Now her idols were gone. The other girls at the bank had remarked upon it but no one seemed that upset.
Marisa’s grief at the loss of these musicians had become all consuming, egged on by likeminded souls on Facebook and Twitter. Now was the time for action. “Where’s my gun mum?”.

  5. Oh I love it!
Em's too, is really good and kind of makes' me want to cry.

There were only three things that Private James Mackenzie asked whenever he called home on a Sunday.
The first, was 'how is my dog?' The answer invariably positive, with a side of 'but she's missing you.'
The second was 'How are the Hawks playing?' which frustrated his mother to no end. She had barely tolerated the football through 27 years of marriage and certainly didn't want to recall it now.
And the third question, the one hopeful query that no one could answer, and which each of the 5 members of his family dreaded, was, 'has she come home yet?'
