Lobster Noodles seem to be the go this year.
Fortunes abound, red lanterns and horses are everywhere across the city.
To quote the SBS website: "Basically, this is a year that rewards fearless courage, dedication and punishes indecision, hesitation or impassiveness....Just ride the horse and ride the momentum, and do not hesitate too much and complete the journey."

DeleteAre there so many chinese people in Sydney that there are chinese New Year celebrations? Never heard about the Red Fire Horse. But as it returns only every 60 years it´s possible . Then I was a small kid. But a Happy New Year to everybody.

The Chinese business community funded a lot of the celebrations in the 1980s to revitalise Chinatown so we called it Chinese New Year for a long time. There have however been Chinese celebrating the Lunar New Year here since 1860s (in Newpaper records). However, as there a re huge Vietnamese, Japanese and Thai populations here, it is now officially Lunar New Year to incorporate all those who celebrate. And as Australians, we love any excuse to celebrate so we merrily jump on any event that's a good time!
DeleteThe gold rush and early trade days brought a lot of Chinese out here in the 1860s so there are many families that are 5th or 6th generation Australian with Chinese heritage.
