Milano Cortina 2026 - Winter Olympics

It's finally here and the excitement is building - I loved watching the torch arrival in Venice flood my Instagram and the cauldron will be beautiful!

Differing to the Summer Olympics, the Winter games has a feeling of fun and the atheletes often seem to be having a good time, which is an infectious joy to watch.

I am astounded by the Women's Nordic Combined being excluded, when the Men's is in the schedule. I'm equally astounded that they say there's a lack of interest, as it's a brilliant sport to watch! (News of it here and a petition here.) Honestly, how in this day and age this is even allowed is beyond me.

Starting from the 6th of Feb, we have two glorious weeks of snow sport action and icecapades.

I will be cheering for every snowless country if an Aussie isn't in competing in the event.

The Olympics, uniting the world when we really need it.

  2. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Winter Olympics hosted by Italy! The ice skating events are my favorite. Our star woman skier, Lindsey Vaughn, sadly recently tore her ACL, but she wants to to try to ski anyway. I hope she does not damage her leg even further. It is sad to put in so much work and then not e able to compete.

    1. I follow the Dakar and one of the Aussie's broke his collar bone but wanted to keep riding until the end, and all the fans commenting were telling him to stop and not make it harder to recover or do permanent damage. It was this weird reversal of responsibility. He did finish.

  3. While you are heading from summer to fall - we here in the middle of Europe celebrate the olympic winter games in our southern neighbour country Italy. I will watch quite a lot of the competitions on TV.
Have a good time and all the best

  4. I haven't seen the olympics or such for many years, not sure why but it doesn't seem as exciting as it use to be.

  5. I'm amazed by the risky things people do on the snow and ice and it is not uncommonly that injuries (sometimes very serious ones!) happen to the poor athletes. I agree with you about encouraging whatever unites people from all over the world, though. Thanks for hosting, Lydia.

  6. Unless I pay for TV, I don't get to watch and I miss that we use to before all the paid apps and channels, but thanks to YouTube, I do get to see some of the action in recaps. I did get to see the skating which I thoroughly enjoy. You are right, it is such a fun time with the Winter Olympics. I hope there were Aussie's that you could cheer for. :)
