I can't believe I'm here already!
Something I loved VIVID has made it a great month, and I've had plenty of good times with friends. I have a friend who just stopped coming to things, and barely kept in touch (despite my efforts, but I knew it was her headspace, not personal). She came to two things this month. She lives up the coast so it's quite the effort too. It was lovely to see her, and lovely to see her back to her old self.

Something I learned That Napoleon banned the theatre production of Coriolanus in 1806 for being anti- authority and would reflect badly on him. Given the current production, I can see why.
Something that went well
I got my tooth fixed. I was hit by a bottle (I was sitting on the ground drinking out of a bottle - classy, and the person in front of me stepped backwards and banged it against my mouth, damaging my front tooth). 20 years later it needed root canal therapy as it started to die, and it was whitened inside. It started to go black again and the dentist told me I'd need it removed as it was too thin for a veneer. I put it off cos it sounded so terrible a procedure but his offsider decided on my next visit that we could whiten it from the inside again. That appears to have worked. Final procedure tomorrow. This is the only work I've ever had done, no fillings on any other teeth, no braces, so it's quite the drama and I'm a baby about it. But happy with the results none the less.
Something I let go of The idea of a last 'family' holiday with my youngest. She doesn't want to go anywhere so I think we may have had it. I'm still trying to come up with ideas but the costs are so high, even to Queensland in the school holidays. So I think we may have already had it in January this year. I've not quite given up yet but I'm working on letting go of it....
The photos are just things that made me happy. The broken dreams is the recycling of your lotto tickets at the newsagent. Alas, I use it too frequently. I've no idea what the left one is, it was just on my roll but I like it.
A stunning series of waterfront photos
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of photos! Take care, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteEverything is getting way more expensive not just travel, a 1k block of cheese here is nearly $14. It's crazy.
ReplyDeleteGlad the whitening is working; I am fanatical about my teeth because I am terrified of having anything done to them (I did have my wisdom teeth removed but I was fully under and filed that more under surgery than dental work). We're getting to the end of our family vacations as well; my oldest has only been on 1 trip out of our last 3 and we only had 1 of the 3 boys that wanted to go to Maine with us. I figure I'll keep planning trips my husband and I want to go on and offer to bring whomever with us but I have zero expectations of them joining in. That way I'm pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! Love the shining water!
ReplyDeleteHi Lydia, I've been to Vivid so I know how wonderful an experience it is! I'm so pleased your friend made the effort to come out and do a few things with you. I can sometimes get like that - withdraw a bit and be too much of a homebody. You have my sympathy with the tooth thing. I'm going through something similar right now and very stressed and very much a baby about it. I've had good teeth all my life and so not practiced at this kind of thing. I have a tooth that required root canal work. Got stage 1 done b4 going to Coolum. Had to wait for stage 2 because of eye surgery. Went for Stage 2 yesterday but after numbing me up and poking around it was discovered there was a major crack across the entirety of my tooth so it will have to be extracted. I am off to a dental specialist shortly for consultation. Not sure when it will be done but hopefully soon though I'm scared @*&@!less because the constant ache is horrendous and means I'm not sleeping well. Ok that was a big whinge - but you definitely have my sympathy for the tooth thing. Glad yours is going better than expected. Thanks for sharing with us at #WWWhimsy ! xo
ReplyDeleteTeeth are so much more invasive than we realise (the proceedure)
DeleteThe kids let go before we are ready....always. Happening to us now as grandparents. Those over the age of 17 we rarely see. I continue to 'host' a play morning-cousins catch up each school hols until that lot loses interest.
ReplyDeleteYour dental story...wow. You are amazing. Thank your parents and fluoride.

I hear you on the dentist dramas Lydia!! Hope it works well for you.

Hi Lydia, sorry to hear about your tooth but hopefully you will be smiling with pearly whites soon. Your photos of the harbour are beautiful as are the daffodils which always make me smile. Thanks for sharing with us Sue L. #TeamWWWhimsy xx
ReplyDeleteI love your out and about photos Lydia, and I share your pain about the dentist. I always sat that I'm allergic to them. I remember when my eldest first started going his own way. It seemed no time since he was a little boy.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard as the kids get older, planning vacations and wanting them to go. I hope you have a great month.
ReplyDeleteCheer up! Family vacations don’t have to end when the chicks leave the nest. People are not birds, after all. We have taken quite a few trips with our daughter, son-in-law, and now grown granddaughters, who in fact have left their nest.
ReplyDeleteNice you got your friend back and such pretty pics.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mural.
Ohhhh, I sat, drinking from a glass bottle and Ingo turned round... it was very close! Glad you got your tooth fixed the more "easy" way.
Sad travel has gone through the roof....
Love the Olivia Newton-John mural. She had such a great and happy smile. Bin of broken dreams, how appropriate and funny. Glad your tooth was able to be fixed, the marvels of improvements to health care and dentistry. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Lydia.
ReplyDelete...you certainly found a smiley mural.
ReplyDeleteLovely mural!
