After cruising around Martin Place, we went up to
Obar, the revolving restaurant (the old Summit) in Australia Square to see the lights from a different angle.

We were lucky enough to get window seats as we hadn't paid for the guaranteed window option. We ordered a la carte though there were a range of set menus at varying prices.

The highlight of the view was less VIVID and more watching the planes come in and appear to skim the tops of the buildings.

The revolving takes a minute or two to get used to and I initially worried I'd get motion sick, which seemed strange as it moves so slowly. Then you stop noticing it, except when you try to take photos and need to hold still on the window.

It's pretty and you get good views of Barangaroo and the Opera House in their colourful attire. The bridge is hidden.

We had a lovely time, and for some reason there were fireworks, so it seemed very indulgent. It was beautiful (though beyond my mobile camera to capture properly).

We spent about $100 each for 2 cocktails and a snack - though my friend also had dessert. So dinner would be a little more (unless you drink less). They have a 3 course set menu for VIVID for $105 with a guaranteed window seat, and then more elaborate options.

If you want to do VIVID without the crowds, this is a great option.

(or check out Bar 83 for higher views but no revolving).

Quite the enchanting spot
ReplyDeleteI'd love it up there!
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of the meal I had in The Window On The World Restaurant at the top of New York's Twin Towers shortly before 9/11
Beautiful view of the city at night.
ReplyDeleteTake care, have a great day and a happy weekend!
What charming views and a great idea to get those wonderful views. And the fireworks were a bonus. Simply stunning and indulging. So was the cost of the drinks!
ReplyDeleteLike Keith, I also visited Windows on the World at the North Tower in New York City.
Thank you for sharing this experience and your drinks with us at VIVID for T this Tuesday, dear Lydia.
Wow those were great seats. Why fabulous views. Happy T day-or hope it was happy.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are really neat.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love revolving building tops, we had one here in Milwaukee but they don't "turn it on" anymore.
