Literal Street Art

Three times this week I stumbled across little pictures abandoned in the gutter or on the foot path. It is both sad and joyful at the same time. A delightfully whimsical addition to my dreary day, but also would a little person be sad when they discovered their loss?

By the time I found the third one, I began to feel it was like I was back in Dispatches from Elsewhere - was I being lured into a game of some sort?

As I wrote in my post on Whimsy 'It's one of the best parts of being alive and it's usually free. It's an internal thing, it comes from you, from how you view the world. It's you insisting on seeing the magic, however small, and discovering that can infiltrate your life.'

May our lives be infused with unexpected fun and meaningless moments that make you smile...

  1. I also wonder if a child is grieving the loss of their work, but perhaps he/her was intentionally trying to share his/her joy with others. Your experience also reminded me of a sermon I wrote recently, on the importance of paying attention and being present in the moment. We are living in an overwhelming world, so like you said, we must insist on seeing magic moments.

  2. Oh my goodness, I also wonder the same thing as Rev. Arnoldo. When a child realizes their artwork is nowhere to be found, they cry, and their parent is in for a wild search to stop those tears from rolling down.

  5. What an awesome find. Hoping someone placed them there like people do with rocks they have painted. Or as you say, kind of sad if they just blew in the wind from a child's drawings they probably miss. It would have been a mama's favorite refrigerator art for sure. So cute.
