Daytrips to the beach. Dinner outside.
Gin and Tonic's replace Negronis.
There are movies to watch under the stars.
It means New Year's Eve and the mad panic of finding something to do or somewhere to go to watch fireworks and celebrate.
It brings the Festival of Sydney and a lot of grown up arts going with friends.
Summer is a holiday whether you go away or not. It is daytrips and exploring outer Sydney and the surrounds because we have the luxury of time.
For us, it is a change in routine that means more family time, as the outside demands vanish for awhile.
In my head, Summer is sunshine but we know that's not true. In NSW there is just as much chance for endless torrential downpours.
Summer is hope and possibility.

I like the lazy day part. Something as simple as slip and slide was so fun for the kids.
ReplyDeleteYou live in beautiful city. Such a summer city.
ReplyDeleteSounds idyllic :)
ReplyDeleteIt does have a different feel in Sydney once Christmas hits and then into January. I would often take myself into town just to walk around, capture pics and enjoy the quiet..after the hustle of the year. Your summer sounds wonderful. Enjoy! Thanks for linking up #lifethisweek Denyse x
ReplyDeleteThat's it! Summer holidays are what they are to us all because of the luxury of time we have during them.

Like you I see summer as family time. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis takes me back to childhood slip n' slide injuries! It was lots of fun... until you hit the grass at the end.
ReplyDeleteLove this article !

I wish it were summer here! It is FREEZING in Colorado! #Stayclassymama
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to more than a few lazy days over Christmas. Right now things still seem rather chaotic.
ReplyDeleteSydney is such a good looking city but she really shines in summer. I have to admit, coming from the mother country where summer consists of a couple of days in the twenties if we're lucky, the sunshine is still my favourite. I have a selective memory and conveniently forget about the torrential downpours! Hope you have a sensational summer!
ReplyDeletewe're in Winter over here so this all looks and sounds lovely to me! I'd love to visit over there one day! #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteWinter here and freezing cold in Cornwall, UK. Looks a wonderful plce that you live in. I cannot imagine Summer in December!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday
Happy Christmas! xx
My summer looks quite different to this (usually checking the forecast multiple times and then muttering bleakly about it 'having turned out nice again then' / 'nice weather for ducks' etc etc) but I'm looking forward to this becoming my experience of summer for the next 2 years!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this, as it all feels so strange to me, seeing as we're in the cold depths of winter here in Wales! x #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! How wonderful that you live here #stayclassymama
ReplyDeleteSo jealous - the depths of winter here with a nasty wind chill! Roll on summer #kcacols
ReplyDeleteOh I'm reading this from a freezing cold UK where I'm sat in bed with my slipper boots on as it's so cold. It's looks and sounds fabulous. Lazy days are the best #kcacols
ReplyDeleteSummer storms are part of what I love about summer. Mostly though I love the early morning and late afternoon swims & lazy Sunday afternoons.
ReplyDeleteWe are so lucky to live in Australia and enjoy Summer, aren't we? I have the same feelings about a long, lazy Summer afternoon spent reading or snoozing. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove summer in Aus...and I'm homesick now!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you? (that sounds exciting!)
DeleteI love the change in routine you mention, even though I'm now retired and don't have to go back to work after Christmas, it still feels different! I love the Sydney vibe and you've captured it really well. #lifethisweek
ReplyDeleteI think we create our own routines. It's a very odd human habit. So I totally get that the 'holidays' change, even when you aren't actually on holiday.
DeleteSummer really is hope and possibility and yes those glorious afternoons!

As I write we spent yesterday inundated with flooding rains! All part of being in Australia. Thank you for linking up for #lifethisweek. Next week's optional prompt is Taking Stock. Denyse.
ReplyDeleteI love summer, but not the over 40 degrees temperature. I've been to Opera house a couple times, love it, nice to chill and just watch sunset on Sydney Harbour bridge, I wish I can witness watching fireworks during New Year one day.
