Saying goodbye to the memories.

I was trying to get rid of 'stuff' in my daughters room, and I decided to empty out the dressing up box. In it I found my teen's old Flash outfit. For two years, around 3-5, he followed me everywhere in that suit, with the hood on.
Over a decade ago.
Where did that time go? We march on so busily and forget so much until prompted.
Suddenly, those little funny people that take up so much of our day are adults that come and go independently and occasionally dine with us.
I love who they are now, I love seeing all the prospects in their life but sometimes when I see these items that have such snapshots of a specific time in their little lives, I miss those days.
I hung the dressing up clothes on the fence for people to take and a short time later, Flash was gone. I am so happy a new kid will get to love this suit, and I'm hoping I get to see a little Flash roaming our streets again.

Do you get triggered by forgotten memories?

Linking with #AwwMondays because this makes me go Awwww ...(though maybe not the rest of you)

  1. I know when we start to get rid of some favourite toys and teddies it cause massive emotions inside me. When your kids move from baby (toddler) to independent, it's very challenging - at least it was for me.

  2. Awwww! I know what you mean.
I keep certain pieces that remind me of special moments. I have a Tee from my first boy which was worn by his brothers too. It's special because he used to call it his work shirt because it looked like dad's Tee! It was so cute at the time and I won't part with it.
Good on you for being brave!

  3. I love a clear out but haven't been brave enough to let go of some of my LO favourites yet. That Flas suit is fabulous! #TwinklyTuesday

  4. That suit is so cool! But no matter how old your kids get, one thing will stay the same, they'll always be your babies, right!?!

    1. That's what I tell them, much to their disgust!

  5. Oh I feel for you, so many memories tied up in old dressing up things like this. I still have a few things I can't bear to throw away #TwinklyTuesday

  6. There are some things I just can't get rid of. I even wrote about it on the Huffington Post.https://www.huffingtonpost.com/teresa-kindred/things-in-my-closet-i-could-never-get-rid-of_b_7238036.html Glad you don't have my hoarding disease!

  7. There are many things I could have kept that were memories from the loving times we spent with our grandkids but in the end, I had to be stoic and give things away and to them for their safe keeping. What I have hung onto is the Fisher Price Dollshouse that each of the 8 g'kids had played with (boys and girls) and so many of the characters. It is something they all still check out even though they are older. One day, I can see them showing their kids this..maybe. I am hugely sentimental but had to lose that for a while when we moved house. No-one can take my memories away though..old age maybe!! Denyse x

  8. Completely understand this. I have a Captain America costume hanging in my costume that she wore three years ago and I think that its fine right where it is #dreamteam

  9. I know how you feel...luckily I have a big age gap between my oldest and youngest so I don't have any reason to clear things out just yet. Now my youngest is fitting into the Spider Man and Shrek and Captain Jack Sparrow costumes that were much beloved by my older sons. But it certainly makes me stop and marvel at how much they've grown up.

  10. Awww I love that Flash costume! I’m sure another little girl or boy will get so much joy from playing with this. The costumes definitely pull back all those wonderful carefree memories. Thanks for joining us for the #dreamteam

  11. Hi, it’s amazing what can bring back happy memories. We just cleared out our spare room and just pondered for a while remembering great times #dreamteam

  12. Isn't amazing how an outfit can trigger those memories? I started going through the box of baby clothes and I got so emotional remembering the different things we had done when they were wearing it, where we got it from etc. The tugs at the heart when I thought about how little they were was tough! Thanks for linking up #twinklytuesday

  13. Love this. Time really does go by way too fast. I have a keepsake box with some baby clothes and toys that I refuse to part with as they bring back such happy memories, but I also know there are many more memory making moments to come as I watch them grow #teamIBOT

  16. Dear Lydia, thank you so much for joining Timeless Thursdays and I must say, your sharing touched my heart so much. I am a very sentimental person so letting go of some things can be really hard for me. But I did master fighting it out in the past few years but still, I keep letters and keepsakes (especially those that do not cosume much space) from my friends and former students. they are treasures to me as much as my collections :)

Thank you so much Lydia and hope to see you again on Timeless Thursdays :)
