READ My April books are here but an interesting fact I read is that 20% of people can smell ants. It's a genetic difference in humans, which makes you think there are plenty of genetic differences that seem to have no reason or purpose, they just are, so maybe we should dial back our hatred against anything we don't see as 'normal'. Back to the ants, it's to do with the formic acid they release, and different types of ants smell differently. Some smell chocolatey or vinegary and some smell like rotten coconut or ammonia. Ants talk to each other through smell, by releasing pheromones. Which explains also how ant eaters can smell ants (though there sense of smell is much stronger than that of humans). So can you smell ants?
WATCHED A lot of DJs, a lot of bands, a lot of comedians and a lot of Shakespeare (the second part of player Kings was another 5 hours and brilliant!) Saw some movies - Saint Ex at the French Film Festival and Amateur on a lazy weekend. Been watching Black Mirror and Mobland on TV.
HEARD Ely Oaks did a fast version of this song which is brilliant but it's not been released so I've had to settle with the slow version. Just lovely! (Though Oaks's dance version is better! Please release it!)
WOREI wore this dress when travelling to a wedding,
and this dress to the 'coastal chic cocktail' wedding.
As it's getting cooler, I wore this when sitting outside for Andrea Bocelli.
Currawong from the air made me smile.
LASTLY It's been a great month. I've basically been on holidays. Shorter work hours as I've needed to get the kiddo places, Away three of the 4 weekends. Good times at night with all the fun that's on.
My three fav moments? Most definitely Ultra - so much fun, and the burst of elation from the dance frenzy &such a great high hangover that lasts for days. Bluesfest is always a joy, that bubble of music for hours, and fun with my husband. The Comedy Festival - more than one moment but all one thing. I'm loving the nightly laughs, but also the ideas the shows leave me thinking about. Good times with friends. Nothing better!
wow sounds like you have had a full on amazing month. Well you only live once as they say - so enjoy every minute! Have a wonderful week and May! And thankyou for visiting my blog this week.
I love how your "Little Loves" post takes us on such an interesting journey! The fact about ants is fascinating—who knew that 20% of people could actually smell them? It’s such a great reminder of how unique we all are, and how much we still have to learn about the world around us. It makes me think about all the other little details we overlook every day.
Your April entertainment list sounds amazing! From Shakespeare to Black Mirror, you're certainly keeping your mind engaged. And I can’t help but be intrigued by Ely Oaks and their music—sounds like a real gem, especially if you're enjoying the fast version of that song.
Thanks for sharing such a fun and diverse mix of interests! Can't wait to check out your next post.
Whilst my month was me not being well (life in recovery from burnout is SLOW) I know that you get out there and enjoy all you can..."while you can". Great going ! Denyse x
A full and fabulous month for you, Lydia. I'm off to see if I can smell ants although there aren't too many around at the moment! We saw Boccelli years ago and he was superb. Have a wonderful May. Sue L #TeamWhimsy xx
Hi Lydia, another busy, diverse and cultural month for you! I'd have no chance of smelling ants as I can't smell anything much. Never had a sense of smell though sometimes I can pick up a little something (not often). Hope your May is just as fabulous or even better! Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy ! xo
I love both of those dresses, Lydia, and it sounds like you've had a delightful month. As for smelling ants, I can't say that I do...at least I never have, though I haven't really tried either. Thinking about that, and other genetic differences that affect how we see, smell, taste, and hear the world around us, reminds me that my perception is not reality for everyone. A good thing to remember.
I can't say whether I can smell ants or not, Lydia. I don't think I've been close enough to them to find out. I'll go on a hunt to find an anthill and take a deep breath. Nothing works like a scientific experiment... Thank you for taking part in the "My Sunday Best" meme.

ReplyDeleteOne of my friends CAN smell ants and didn't realise people couldn't! Humans are amazing. Our differences in genetic make up is so incredibly diverse!
