Every Day Oddities

The moon from my window, but the plane coming in looks like a star. The sky sparkles for all different reasons.

The sun decorated this plain building, making it seem so much more interesting. The sky lights up ordinary too.

This sign was in the foyer of my friend's aged care home. I know it's about going deaf but I found it funny because Australian's do mumble a bit, and I imagined if everyone did start mumbling, and how the tourists would react....

We were invited to a black tie event so I dusted off my wedding dress. I was amazed I could still squeeze into it, so while it looked bumpy in the wrong places and was very tight (it's silk not stretchy), I figured I should wear it as it may be the last time I get into it. However, when I finally saw the invitation, the allowed colours were black, gold or silver - no prints. So my favourite dress was wrong on two counts.

I did have another option. This crazy dress with clear discs. I took photos to ask people and it looked blurry in the pictures. Though you can see the photo is in focus, just the discs appear that way. I am dying to see how it looks in the photos the photographer took.

This reflection of the tree on a van full of balloons amused me, though the photo didn't turn out as good as the real life visual.

In the messiness of life, the perfect symmetry of the flower seems an beautiful oddity, I guess a reminder that there is order in chaos.

Martin Place in VIVID colours.

Martin Place is so far the best of VIVID for me. The flowers are just magical, and I probably spent the most time immersed in that field of flowers, colours, music and sparkles.

The bubbles are also alluring and a smart way to draw you up to the restaurants and bars.

The tunnel seemed the most popular with people, for the photos no doubt, but on the rainy evening, it was the only 'crowded' part - and not really very crowded at all.

There is also an information booth at the George Street end of Martin Place.

The Fullerton looked so splendid I almost missed the projection on the building opposite.

I spent about 45 minutes there before heading on to my next destination.

As a bonus, if you get the Metro, it exits right into the thick of it all. (Otherwise it's a short walk from Wynyard)

While it had rained all day, it was only sprinkling while I was out and it did make the reflections on the ground quite lovely. Dress warm and take an umbrella. Then head off to warm up inside for dinner!

The VIVID Sydney Opera House

The Opera House is always spectacular but in VIVID season it goes that extra mile.

Vantage points are all over the harbour, even from the trains.

VIVID runs until the 14th of June so don't miss it!

The website is here with all the details.

“Twinkle lights are the perfect metaphor for joy. Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments—often ordinary moments. Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we're too busy chasing down extraordinary moments. Other times we're so afraid of the dark that we don't dare let ourselves enjoy the light." Brene Brown

VIVID is an easy way to enjoy the light! A short cut to joy and wonder.

The Sunday Morning Detective Agency

I walk with a friend on the weekend - a brisk walk and talk, enjoying the scenery and catching up on the week. (Annoying her when I stop for photos with a 'you keep going, I'll catch up').

This week was unexpected excitement - we found a wallet. We took it to the apartment buildings to put in the mailbox but they were inside the security doors. We messed around a bit trying to get in until someone finally left and we scurried in. I then set about letting her know she didn't need to cancel her cards. I put messages in community fb groups and sent some PMs, only for the people with the same name to tell me that it wasn't theirs.

I googled her. Found her and sent an email through the business address. Realising that wouldn't be seen until too late, I texted someone in her industry and asked if they knew her. The person they were with actually DID know her, texted her and all was resolved.

I was there thinking how easy the tech world made it to solve these problems when my friend said "It shows you how easy it is to stalk someone". So I guess there's a lesson there, on privacy and our digital footprints. They are huge, even if we aren't on Social Media.

However, as someone who has had to cancel cards and reset up all the direct debits, I was glad to save her that task unnecessarily.

The Island of Lost Toys

I posted awhile back of the Tale of Lost Children and on my morning walk was reminded of the haunted world around us....(my haunted photography series, at least!).

I will admit no amount of playing with filters could make the cute little kitty sad or melancholy, or ominous.

Weirdly all taken on the same morning walk....
