The little things

It's been a pretty disturbing week. The potential global fallout is a worry. The rise of the right around the world is concerning. The notable damage of the heating of the planet is becoming more and more noticeable. Snow in Saudi for the first time EVER. No snow on Fuji until November, for the first time in 130 years. The lack of snow in Niseko ski fields...the list goes on. And people voted for someone who thinks it's a hoax. So here we are.

As I learnt long ago, when the big picture is bringing you down, focus on the little things.

Look after those around you, and reach out to those in despair.

If we intend to provide a better life, and a better world, for future generations, we can't ignore the quality of the environment we leave them.

As Grace Petrie says in the song 'Grab a spade and grab a hammer', it's time to roll up our sleeves and do what we can....

  1. Yes indeed..the rise of the right and global warming will end this earth in tragedy! But I am in the last quarter of my life and should survive decently enough. My oldest grandchild is only 21 and will have to watch the struggle of all her siblings :(

  3. Sometimes the bigger picture gets me down and is a big much to think about, I like theo break things up into little portions and think about it that way.

  4. Beautiful flowers and I love the color. Wow.

There are so many issues that we need to address. So many.

  5. It really is scary all around the world (I'm in Germany). I try hard to find something good in each day, no matter how small, if you don't do that, it's hard to get up in the morning.
Each little kindness, each mindfulness is a small step, but can add up.

  6. Hi Lydia it is so easy to feel down and overwhelmed after listing or watching the news. I agree though, at these times we need to try to bring the focus back to the little things in life and try hard to be grateful for the good in life. Thanks for sharing with us at #WWWhimsy and reminding us of the beauty of nature which always brings joy. Have a lovely weekend. Sue L #TeamWWWhimsy x

  7. Lydia, I have been having the same thoughts. Watching the news has been sending me into a bit of a spiral, so I've stopped for a while. Like you, I've found it helpful to think about the small joyful moments to realise how fortunate we are.

  8. Nature is my go-to for comfort always. Even today, in the heatwave and still a bit unwell I had to get outside to water the wilting plants.
    Take care. Denyse x #WWWhimsy
