After a 4 year hiatus, I was back trackside for the Singapore F1 night race. I can not recommend this race for solo women travellers - it's easy, friendly and safe.
You have the day to explore and be a tourist and the nights with the car festivities and a mini music festival.
There are even free driver meet & greets around the city in the lead up to the race days. (Alas I arrived a day late but got the Zone 1 event on the Saturday)
There are simulators and f1 games all over the city, as well as all the art galleries and museums.
Singapore has a glut of great restaurants - Michelin starred down to hawker centres. So choose wisely and don't waste a meal.

I always say, if you don't have a good time in Singapore, that's on you - you just didn't do it properly.
There's plenty of free things to do and you can eat well on the cheap.
Or you can lash out and luxe it up.
Still smiling at all the pics while planning my return next year.

ReplyDeleteWasn't correcting you, just found it interesting. Quite an academic scandal it appears...but i wrote on legacy this week and how you had no control over it and that fits in - you write a poem and then someone attributes it to someone else and your legacy is gone!

ReplyDeleteLooks like a very nice place. Singaporians are regular visitors in my blog. For few months now they´ve been looking at my blog in (relatively) huge numbers. Don´t know why that is, it´s mystery to me.
ReplyDeleteI´m from Finland. Many great F1 drivers we had over the years. Leo Kinnunen, Keke Rosberk, JJ Lehto, Mika Häkkinen, Heikki Kovalainen, Kimi Räikkönen and Valtteri Bottas. I`m probably forgetting one or two. But not bad for population of 5.5 million. Few of them are F1 Champpions as well.
Actually the last photo has Valtteri in it. He´s from my beloved hometown of Lahti.
Mika Salo (you left off). I was a Kimi fan and am currently driverless since he retired. Back in the day I was an Alesi fan but we all had a soft spot for Mika H as he really had that steely determination and was so fast but there was something so open about him too. If he wasn't your driver, he was everyone's second driver. One of my favourite rally drivers was Juha Kankkunnen - I even wanted to call one of the kids Juha but husband vetoed it...Ha!!

ReplyDeleteHey there, a friend of mine has been to this one a few times and reckons it's the best of the F1s he's been to (and he's ticking them all off). We're in Singas in a couple of weeks & I can't wait to go back - for us it's been 4 years too. One question, where's that fabulous mural?
ReplyDeleteI reckon it's the best one too. Monaco was pretty special but I'm guessing it's pretty different from when i was there. Melbourne is just a bit of a hassle. Singapore is so easy and more 'stuff' to do. The murals are all over China Town. There's a lot of them. Will be posting a series soon. If you have the bucks, book the Tippling club for lunch - the $100++ is amazing value. My friend went to Burnt Ends (she arrived after I left) and really loved it but it is a lot more. There is a great modern art gallery in Raffles, called Art Now. It's fabulous (and free). Def check that out.
