I've written about it almost annually, the Share the Dignity - It's in the bag Christmas appeal. Bunnings will be collecting those bags from 15 Nov until the1 Dec. It's a really great thing to do for those in need, but it's also a great thing to do for me, to lift my mood.As I said before, "There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up." John Holmes
So you have a few weeks to fill the bag(s) and get it to Bunnings.
Mine are almost done, just need to label and get them there. Then I'll start on my Reverse Advent calendar (where you fill a box with something each day to donate - with interests rates on the rise again, I need to shop carefully but it's something I'm reluctant to quit doing.)
For me November has become my Giving Season. (Though the photos are of Rainbow lorikeets because I took them but have nothing more to say about them....ha!)

Giving back truly lifts the spirits, both for the givers and the recipients. Thank you for being a beacon of compassion. Beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteSo hard to see rosella these days.
ReplyDeleteThe lorikeets are pretty. I wasn’t expecting to find a link up but glad I did.
ReplyDeleteSince you commented on my post, I'm linking to yours here. Thus the blogs interconnect, much as everything else does!
ReplyDeleteLove rainbow lorikeets.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, how fast the year has gone by. That is a wonderful project. No Bunnings here, but there are so many ways to practice thanksgiving. The lorikeets are beauties.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you participate in filling a bag with so many essential items every year for those in need--and I know how great that need is these days of high inflation and high rents, etc. We shop and fill a big bag with non perishable food for our local food bank this time of year, as the boy scouts collect the bags as a good deed. You gave me the idea now to include some well needed toiletry items next time.
ReplyDeleteDear Lydia, it's very nice that you're packing this bag as a Christmas present for those who have less themselves. Giving definitely makes feel good, getting gifts also brings joy to those who receive those gifts.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the rainbow lorikeets are very beautiful - and I have to say, I think it's particularly beautiful that they look for food so peacefully next to the pigeons, obviously without the "racism" that is unfortunately known in the human world. Some are colorful, others are gray, and no one cares. It should be so.
Have a nice weekend and all the best, Traude

Lovely birds, Lydia. Our local Bunnings organises these bags also and we participate. It seems this year is going to be especially difficult for an increasing number of people and whoever can give something to others who are in dire straits, should definitely do so. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDelete...too often the giving season has become the receiving season. The need out there is great.
ReplyDeleteAre these birds just out and about hanging with the pigeons? They are incredible. Like portable, feathered rainbows. Beautiful shots, too.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of these bags. Such a great idea. I would love to do some for the Women's Crisis Center here. We forget about teens and mommies with nursing babies. What a precious gift you are to someone in need. Checked out the reverse advent calendar, too. May try to do that with the bag idea.
Those bags are so cool. Very nice. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
